Dear Parents and Guardians:

As we are in the final days of the school year, I would like to let you know of some upcoming changes for next year.

Mr. Frank Bartsch was hired at the board meeting on Monday. He will be our new PE/Health teacher as Mr. Zach Holton has resigned. Mr. Bartsch will also be our new Activities Director. We are excited to have him working with us. You might recognize his name if you have had a child in Kindergarten. Mrs. Jen Bartsch is his wife.

Ms. Brittany Roth has resigned as our Music/Band teacher. We will be posting her position. I would like to wish both Ms. Roth and Mr. Holton well in their journey. They have done a great job with our students and they will be missed.

Ms. Kellee Young will move into the Dean of Students position. Her focus for next year will be a proactive approach to changing behavior through lessons in the classrooms as well as supporting teachers with their growth in classroom management.

Ms. Summer Opacich will continue teaching 7th/8th English and will also be the 2nd grade teacher. This is an out of the box concept, but I am confident our students will continue to have excellent learning experiences.

For the past year and a half, the school board has been looking at contracting our transportation department. When we are determining whether or not this makes sense for the district, things to be considered are buying two buses to replace current buses. While all of our buses are safe and have been monitored by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, we will still need to replace buses. Another factor in the decision is the overall cost of running the transportation department. A call of bids for the contract went out in February and March, however no decisions could be made until an agreement with Union was made. On May 21st, the school board approved the contract with IUOE Local #70 which included removing the language regarding bus drivers. With the contract approved, we are now able to move forward with the transportation contract. At the board meeting on Monday, the item selecting a company to provide transportation services was tabled. After reviewing the contracts, we determined that more information was needed before a decision could be made. The school board will be discussing the contracts on June 11th and a decision as to which company will be selected will be made on June 18th at the regular school board meeting.

The entire staff at Floodwood School, including the School Board, is dedicated to providing the students of Floodwood School with the best education possible. Between attending workshops, preparing and presenting lessons, reviewing data, and making adjustments based on what we learn, we are all continuing to make improvements so that our students are successful.

Thank you for your support this year! Any time you have questions or concerns regarding something that is happening in the school, please call or email. I am always happy to answer any questions.

Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rae Villebrun

Superintendent/Principal
