Letter from Superintendent/Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We will be providing information to families and the community members of the Floodwood School District regarding the Operating Referendum at the end of the week. We will also be scheduling community meetings at each of the townships as well as reaching out to businesses. We want to be sure you have the correct information when it comes time to vote in November.

With us being in the full swing of the school year, our students have been or will be assessed to determine extra support. Mr. Svatos and classroom teachers will be sending home information regarding the available programs and support.

The high school students will also be assessed. We have been making great gains in the elementary and will be implementing similar support in the high school. One important difference between the elementary and high school is the higher attendance rate in the elementary. We have been in school for nine days. Already, a difference can be observed in the attendance rate of our high school students. I am extremely happy to see the improvement from last year to this year. I also appreciate the number of phone calls we are getting when parents get the phone call from the automated system that their child is absent. Not only does this help keep the students safe, but it keeps parents up to date on what is happening with their child’s attendance.

We had our first Community Education meeting last week. If you have ideas for classes or a talent you would like to share, please connect with Tara Fierke. We are always looking at ways to offer more classes to the community.

The Polar Den will be open on Wednesday, September 19th from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.  The cost is $5 per session. The students will participate in fun activities and have an opportunity to get help on homework.

A survey went home last week asking if you were interested in being part of a parent group. Please complete the survey and send it to school with your child. We need your help!

The Polar Pride team is working on the first celebration for the end of 1st quarter. Ask your child what ROAR means to them and how it looks when they visit the different areas in the school.

Lunch and recess is split this year for the K-6 students. K-3 are in the cafeteria while the 4-6 are outside. We are trying something different this year. Our hope is the students will have a little more free play without worrying about running into students bigger or smaller than they are. It also frees us space in the cafeteria for the change in the 7th-9th grade lunch period where the students hang out in the cafeteria rather than in the hallway.

It’s going to be a great year! Thank you for being part of it!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rae Villebrun

Superintendent/Principal
