Strategic Planning

The Floodwood School Board, district leaders and community members gathered for their first Strategic Planning Task Force meeting on Monday, April 19th at 5:00 PM in the school gymnasium. The task force consists of school board members, teachers, students, parents, business and faith-based leaders, senior citizens and community experts. The knowledge, expertise and commitment shown by the task force members was impressive. They are truly passionate about the educational experience for Floodwood students and the community!

The Key Question the task force will be answering is “How will we ensure an excellent education for Floodwood students now and into the future?

Facilitators Julie Critz and Denise Pontrelli led the group through various activities to increase their foundational knowledge of the current state of the school district. They shared a timeline for the strategic planning process and reviewed the current vision, mission and belief statements previously adopted by the school board. The task force reviewed all the statements and shared their insight on suggested changes for the future.

Superintendent Dr. Rae Villebrun presented progress of the current strategic plan including information on the six pillars of the plan including: student achievement, student support, communications and marketing, and the workforce. Teresa Hart, Business Manager, shared information on enrollment, budget projections, technology, facilities and the impact of COVID on school district operations and the budget.

The last activity of the meeting was to create an analysis of the current state of affairs of the school district. Members worked in groups to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges facing the district. At the next meeting on May 3rd, task force members will review these components to understand varied perspectives and how they may impact planning for the school district. They will also be looking at the history of the district to help them as they plan for the future of Floodwood students.
