7th & 8th Grade Update of Goings On!!
For this spirited and opinionated group, they have just finished the second novel as a class this year by author Jason Reynolds called All American Boys. His stories tell compelling truths about growing up, negotiating difficult middle and high school environments, and learning to accept each other’s differences.
Students did a nice job fettering out what life lesson the author was holding up for us to examine as well as learning how bias and prejudices can happen. Students are ready for their novel projects; we will be starting soon. I am preparing hands-on group projects for this active and motivated class!
In the meantime, we are working on grammar and vocabulary. We have begun sentence structure and punctuation since we are preparing to begin formal writing. We have recently completed our first set of vocabulary from the novel. Students did VERY WELL! This is a smart group, and I look forward to continuing to study with them.

Mr. Bordwell took 7th/8th grade to Prairie Lake on Friday February 7th for a Natural Resources class field trip. Dusty Keil offered a few of his ice houses on the lake, and Sarah Robert’s and her dad brought an extra portable. Randy Kiminski and Joe Rahja also came and helped out. All the kids were warm enough, and had fun on the lake. We caught 27 fish in total thanks to minnows from Larry’s Bait and Service, with the majority being crappies.

Floodwood females participated in the Women in the Workforce event at MN North College-Hibbing today! They heard from female panelists that are in fields such as construction, law enforcement, electric, welding, automotive and more! They also got a tour of the campus and started the networking process by asking lots of questions of current students and professionals. Lots of fun learning happened today for Floodwood students!
