Our 9th-grade students will be tackling bulletin board projects this week as they begin researching the Black Lives Matter movement in connection with their recently completed novel, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
This class has shown a willingness to tackle complex issues head-on. I want to encourage this kind of dialogue and keep students talking and learning about how to boost their credibility and reputation while having difficult conversations without damaging relationships.
Through their bulletin board projects, students will explore key themes from the novel—such as systemic racism, activism, and the power of using one’s voice—and connect them to real-world events and social movements.
These projects will showcase their research, reflections, and creative interpretations, providing an opportunity for us to engage in meaningful conversations. I am looking forward to watching these student-led displays take shape, highlighting their critical thinking, collaboration, and skill for discussion.

Ms. Ruzynski held a digital wellbeing facilitated conversation with students grade 5-12 to listen to and learn from students to better understand how their use of technology and digital media is impacting them. We recognize that students are navigating a complex world of technology and digital media every day. Students reported that the conversation did allow for open sharing and it gave them an opportunity to consider tech's impact on their wellbeing. We are grateful to Ms. Ruzynski for bringing digital wellbeing to our Floodwood community!
Ms. Ruzynski has been working with Live More Screen Less to help our students learn more about their digital wellbeing. Here is a link to learn more: https://livemorescreenless.org/
