Letter from Superintendent/Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community:

It is with disappointment that I share the news that the referendum did not pass last night. There were 352 No votes and 337 Yes votes. I am sure everyone is wondering what is going to happen now. Although I do not have a definitive answer yet, I am confident that we will come up with a new plan to ensure that our students continue to have an amazing education here at Floodwood.  When I say “we”, I am referring to our school board, staff, and community. We need those of you who have supported the school to continue to support the school. Of course cuts will need to be made. However, by being creative, I am confident that we will succeed. If you have thoughts or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to share with me. As soon as we have the plan, it will be shared with you. Please trust and be patient with us as we figure this out, because losing your support is the only thing that can hurt us more.

The school board will be making the final decisions regarding the staffing and changes as we have information regarding the funding from the state. Areas impacted by the recent decision will include the reductions we have already made in office and custodial staff as well as teachers, paras, and additional custodial staff.  The number of bus routes could also be impacted. We may not know the full extent until the summer.

Be confident in knowing that your children have the best teachers and support staff working with them. They have been going above and beyond to ensure your children’s success and will continue to do so. They are committed to excellence for the Floodwood School. The results of this referendum vote will not impede the dedication nor the success of our school.

Conferences will be held Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you missed your scheduled time on Monday or can’t make Thursday’s scheduled time, please contact your child’s teacher to reschedule. The most important part of conferences is having the opportunity to talk about the strengths of your child and how to help continue their path toward success.

The teachers are planning a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) event on Thursday, April 25th beginning at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It will be a great opportunity for you and your child to learn and have fun.

Thank you, again, for supporting the students and staff of our amazing school! Let’s stay positive!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rae Villebrun
