Cognitive Wellbeing is enhancing and nurturing one’s mental processes to foster a healthy brain in order to optimize learning, intuition, focus, memory, judgement, and other cognitive functions.
Why is this important?
Raising awareness about The Attention Economy - the current business model or Big Tech - reduces individual feelings of guilt and shame; raises awareness of steps needed to reduce distraction; and motivates people to make choices that put them in control rather than Big Tech.

Brain Drain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3jQbyiov-k
This weeks challenge:
What motivation or guardrails do you need to complete a task before getting drawn into digital media? Partner with a friend to find a creative way to keep social media from interrupting attention and safeguard your wellbeing.

MCA Testing will continue this week on April 23 and 24. We would like to remind families to be sure their children are prepared with a good night’s rest, minimize screen time the night before and healthy breakfast. Also to do their best to be on time and present on days of testing. Teachers work hard to be sure to have extra snacks and fun to celebrate their hard work on testing days. Please see the attached photo on ways parents/guardians can help their students with test anxiety.
Please add to reach out to counselor at lschubitzke@isd698.org if they would like some more guidance.

Congratulations to Freshman, Alison Rahja, on her over the fence homerun and to the Varsity girls softball team in the victory over McGregor today!

Mental Wellbeing - “A state of well-being in which the individual realizes their own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to their community.” - World Health Organization
Why is this important?
It’s easy to use a screen to distract ourselves when we’re feeling upset. Learning about and developing mental wellbeing skills to cope with life stressors that aren’t screen-based expands possibilities for connecting with ourselves and provides for deeper learning and growing.
This weeks challenge:
Consider time spent on your device. What healthy activities is screen time replacing? Throughout the day, ask yourself - “Am I choosing to be on my device or am I on my device by habit or because I feel like I should be?” Be aware of what is happening in that moment and how you are feeling.

Pickleball has started!! If you are interested in reserving court time or coming to a "Learn to play pickleball" session, please contact Peg or Jeff.

Emotional Wellbeing is grounded in kindness toward self and an ability to recognize and perceive one’s own emotions and the emotions of others and respond skillfully.
Why is this important?
Being able to recognize and respond skillfully to one’s emotions is an important part of wellbeing and it takes a lot of practice. Practical tools can help the process.
This weeks challenge:
Kindness can be contagious. Practice productive, kind, positive self-talk by creating an affirmation for yourself that makes you feel proud, happy, or grateful. Then identify how you feel afterwards.
Take a look at your social media feeds. Identify those you follow that encourage positivity. Be bold and unfollow those who do not.
